Southern California racers John Keeling and Jerry Clayton established the benchmark for incredibly beautiful racecars. The team ran a series of “California Charger” Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars in the 70s and 80s, each with a similar execution of their trademark tu-tone cobalt and powder blue paint schemes. If a part wasn’t immaculately painted, it was flawlessly polished, chromed or even gold plated! The cars ran as strong as they looked, proving that their understanding of fine machinery wasn’t just cosmetic. This digital image is a rendering of the team’s 1977 Pontiac Trans Am funny car piloted by Neil Leffler. It’s one of ten Speed Images in a special series from Speed Images Art dedicated to Orange County International Raceway’s greatest decade 1967-1977. This image measures 12 x 18 inches, is printed on heavy watercolor stock, is signed by the artist and is available for immediate shipping.
